![]() ![]() Who knew Metphies was a duelist to call on three divine beasts? I sure didn’t but back to the movies version of Ghidorah, his unique design is pleasantly fresh, almost reminiscent of the ghost aliens from Final Fantasy The Spirits Within. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any bigger, here comes Ghidorah out from the divine spheres of some other dimension, nearly dwarfing Godzilla with just a single head and body. He’s scared to lose but also wants to win and when the end of the film arrives, he does the best redeemable action that shall right his flaws of the past via going head on with Godzilla, Yuko at his side in the last remaining vulture, demanding Godzilla finish the job and erase the remnants of the past (meaning Haruo, Yuko, and the vulture). Now having gone from hatred to lament, Haruo no longer knows what’s viable for humanities survival. While his hatred was still strong, he wanted the others to be safe, more so for Yuko and once the nano-machines started taking a hold, Haruo became indecisive and filled with sadness, even confusion (but this would prove to be something very important in Planet Eater). In the next film his world was turned upside down from a devastating defeat at the hands of Godzilla Earth. At the start of his journey, he wanted nothing more to return to earth, kill Godzilla and live a life anew. He’s so flawed and has so much raw emotion that he makes for the best redeemable character. Now there’s Haruo.I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoy this character, like for real. He has enough charm and charisma that he comes off as a strong support character that ultimately influences the last act of the film. Martin was pretty well in this movie and of all the characters given, I feel like he has the most delivery of information that shouldn’t be tossed away so easily. He was perfect, especially for being the last hurtle Haruo would have to get over in order to be on a straighter path of redemption. As a last physical villain for the protagonist, he played everything so calmly it makes me wanna toss him off the slopes of Mt. Metphies.that slimy suave son of a bitch! He had a plan all along and man did I feel betrayed by him something fierce. Then there’s Miana and Maina, both are pretty good characters even though one has less screen time than the other and also serves as a serious WTF moment in the film.not counting risque love scene (not the first in a Godzilla movie, surely won’t be the last either). Martin does point out that she’s being kept alive by the nano-machines, however she is essentially brain dead. Straight away, my girl Yuko is in the movie but also not in the movie. Toho, you now have a chance to redeem yourselves for the anime trilogy. ![]() Come on, even the IDW Godzilla comics captured more of the essence of the original films. As in Ifukube music, city-smashing, the central themes about man and nature, military attacks on the Kaiju ending in vain, and (of course) KAIJU SMACKING EACH OTHER AROUND. Make it feel like fans are watching a Godzilla movie presented in a different medium. ![]() GODZILLA.: This also should be a no-brainer. The reason why I think KOTM was the best American Godzilla movie (even beating out the 2014 film for that title) was partly because Michael Dougherty was a huge G-Fan and his passion for the franchise was present in each scene involving the Kaiju.Ĥ. The movie or series should have someone behind it who has a love and passion for all things Godzilla. Get someone who's a fan of the franchise: This should be a no-brainer. Even the Monsterverse films got this part right.ģ. On another subject, give the Kaiju personalities and make them seem like actual char-ac-ters. And if they have to use CGI, use it for effects, building destruction, and machines like MechaGodzilla or MOGUERA. They still move fluidly, but they feel like they have mass to them. Besides, they can still find a way to make the Kaiju seem big and heavy just animate them with slightly less frames per second. Also, I think 2D animation is better to look at than cel-shaded CGI. ![]() Yes, Godzilla Earth had weight to him, but he was too heavy that at times he felt more like a slightly mobile mountain than a living creature. 2D animation: We want to see a Godzilla movie where the Kaiju are not limited by suitmation and given more fluid movement. And that's a shame since the Godzilla franchise has had its share of strong female leads like Akane Yashiro, Kiriko Tsujimori, Miki Saegusa, Madison Russell, and even Emiko Yamane.Ģ. A strong female character: Because, let's face it, Yuko, Maina, and Miana were just there to either be love interests for Haruo or just plot devices. Since we've received news that Toho is going to attempt another animated Godzilla project, here's a wishlist of what I'd like to see:ġ. ![]()
